Saturday April 22 is Earth Day and we are excited to highlight a few things we are doing as a company to help improve our carbon footprint and protect our environment. From our work gloves, recycling of steel, and our Solar Panels, here is some information about CSW:
Work Gloves
At our facilities, we have been using a glove recycling program that recycles our work gloves when no longer in use. In 2022, we were able to return over 87% of our gloves after laundering, saving several thousands of gloves going to landfills.
Recycling Steel
One of the types of metals that can continuously be recycled without loss of quality is steel. By recycling all of our unused steel, it not only avoids waste to landfills that could harm groundwater and plant life, it ultimately results in a reduction of CO2 emissions.
Solar Panels
On Earth Day in 2022 our Solar Panel project company suggested that in our 1st full year we would generate enough kWh’s to save nearly 93 metric tons of CO2not being released into the environment. Amazingly, our Solar Panels generated even more than that! Since Earth Day in 2022 we have conserved 178,818 kWh’s of energy, equating to 127 metric tons of CO2 not being released into the environment.
Solar panels do NOT produce emissions out into the environment while generating energy. The clean energy from the Sun slashes down gas emissions while also conserving earth’s resources through renewable energy.
To put 127 metric tons of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) not being released into the environment into reference:
This is equivalent to greenhouse gas emissions from:
28.2 gasoline-powered passenger vehicles driven for one year (8.4 vehicles increase)
230,864 miles driven by an average gasoline-powered passenger vehicle (94,002 miles increase)
This is equivalent to CO2 emissions from:
14,260 gallons of gasoline consumed (a 3,794 gallon increase)
102,905 pounds of coal burned (a 39,047 pound increase)
16 homes of energy use for one year (a 4.3 home increase)
15,415,187 number of smartphones charged (a 4,101,475 smartphone increase)
This is equivalent to carbon sequestered by:
2,095 tree seedlings grown for 10 years (a 557 tree seedling increase)
