Capital Steel & Wire is a distributor of 86L20 grade cold drawn steel bar stock. 86L20 steel is one of the most widely used carburizing alloys, as it has high case hardness and a strong tough core. This steel adds a great finish, tool life, and machinability, and increases parts production up to 25%. The 86L20 is heat treated to achieve optimal hardness and case depth. The added nickel gives the 86L20 excellent ductility and toughness.
86L20 cold drawn bar is a great option for pinions, spline shafts, gears, crankshafts, oil pumps jigs, plastic molds, gauges and many other applications. It is recommended that 86L20 is kept under temperatures of 400°F as higher temperatures result in low ductility. The following is 86L20's chemical and mechanical properties:
